Municipalities and agencies are adding AI assistants and automated steps to their services. The duty to explain them does not move. Vaara checks each automated step against the rules you set and keeps a record a citizen, an auditor or an ombudsman can check without access to your systems.

A public body has to be able to show how an automated step was decided, to anyone who asks.

What you can do

  • Bring AI assistants and automation into services without opening a gap in accountability.
  • Keep a person in the loop exactly where the rules say one is needed.
  • Hand an auditor or an ombudsman the record itself, readable on their own machine.

What you are saved from

  • Being unable to show who or what made an automated decision.
  • Lock-in to one supplier's logs for your own evidence.
  • Re-tendering because the evidence requirement was missed the first time.

What it costs

Free to download and use, with nothing to sign up for. Paid work, such as a readiness review or a pilot in your own environment, is scoped to your case and priced as a fixed amount agreed before it starts. No subscription, no per-seat fee. Vaara is dual-licensed: free under the AGPL-3.0, or under a commercial licence when you build it into a product you ship closed, run a modified version as a service without publishing your changes, or your policy does not allow copyleft. Write to hello@vaara.io.

What it saves you

  • Staff time spent answering information requests about automated steps.
  • An audit trail you would otherwise commission as a separate project.
  • Supplier changes that no longer reset your evidence.

Every action ends in one of three states, and leaves a receipt

Allowed

Inside the rules: it goes through.

Needs a person

Unusual or risky: it waits until a person says yes or no.

Refused

Against the rules: it never happens.

Receipt

Every one of the three leaves a signed record of what was decided and why.
